February Currently

I am linking up with Farley for her February Currently.

The weather has been crazy here in Hawaii...nothing compared with the snow and cold on the mainland.  We've had a huge swell that came in last week and we've had rain and strong winds.  Today was a hot day and the downpour helped cool the evening here.

We've had a busy week at school with lots of deadlines...happy to just sit back and relax.

Weekends always end so quickly and I just wish it could last longer...heehee.

My parents are getting older and some health issues are arising...I need to be able to stop and just sit and talk and enjoy them while they are still here with me.  I don't like the idea of thinking that they won't be with me forever.  My niece and my nephew are also growing up...my niece is 8 years old and my nephew will be 3 in July and starting preschool in the fall...wished they could stay little forever.

I "freak out" at the sight of geckos and lizards.  I can't stand them and they gross me out.  My students learn this on the first day of school...they get a special treat if they can catch and throw a gecko out.

I am the youngest in my family...glad that my cousins and I are closer, but it was hard growing up not being "allowed" to hang out with the old kids.

I love to learn new things about technology and blogging has opened many doors to different learning opportunities.

I hope everyone has a wonderful February...don't forget to link with with Farley's Currently.

Xoxo,
Julie

  2. I think we all could use more time with the family. I definitely take breaks from all my technology outlets to hang out with my littles. Family really is the most important gifts of this life. It's super windy in my little corner in Texas. I'd much rather listen to rain like you than the howling wind.
    Have an amazing February!

    1. I wasn't a fan of the wind blowing here too...howling wind is scary. Life always gets busy, but I have to remember to stop and spend time with my family. I hope you have an amazing February too.

  3. You're in Hawaii???? Then you might be just the person I need to talk to! I am planning a trip to Maui and the Big Island. I've been to Maui, so I knew where I wanted to stay, but the Big Island has me stumped. My son wants to go to see the volcanos but we are flying into Kona. We will only be on the Big Island 3 days, so, my question is...should I find a place to stay near the volcanos or in Kona? Any suggestions? Thanks!

    1. I am embarrassed to say that I am not too sure. It's been a while since I've been to the Big Island. I think the drive from Kona to Volcano National Park is about 2 hours...it will depend on what else you wanted to do. I can ask my Aunty and Uncle who live in Hilo for suggestions and get back to you?

  4. LOL! Hubby and I were on vacation in Oaxaca, Mexico....TONS of geckos there apparently. Didn't know what the heck was making all the clicking and chirping noises ALL NIGHT LONG! Kept telling the front desk there was some sort of bird in our villa...turns out they were teeny tiny geckos and I felt like an idiot for not knowing! :) They were kinda cute though! Glad to have found your blog and be your newest follower!

    1. That wouldn't be a vacation for me...LOL. I have learned to let the geckos hide up by the closets in my classroom, but if a gecko is in my apartment...husband won't get any sleep until it's gone. I just can't get them to be "cute". Have a great weekend!

  6. I can't imagine geckos in the classroom! I do think that they are cute, but I'm not sure I could deal with them in my room! Even though the weekend isn't going to get any longer, try to relax and enjoy it!

    1. Yes, they are not fun to have in the classroom, but it's something we deal with here in Hawaii. I work in a beautiful school on the North Shore of Oahu and they are everywhere...blech. I am trying to relax on this rainy day before the SuperBowl... I hope you have a wonderful weekend as well.

  7. Aren't you scared of spiders? I love the sound of rain outside and the smell when the rain stops. Lucky you!

    1. I can handle spiders, but maybe if one fell on me or something that might be a different story 😉
